YOU COULD HAVE A BROKEN BACK

A vertebral compression fracture (VCF) happens when one of the bones in your spine weakens and collapses. The fracture occurs in the round column-like portion of your vertebrae. VCF back fractures commonly occur as a result of osteoporosis, cancer, or some form of traumatic injury.

Kyphoplasty Can Fix Fractures of The Spine

Vertebral fractures lead to KYPHOSIS (curvature of the spine) and pinched nerve pain.

Kyphoplasty Helps Back Pain

Get Back to Life

Balloon kyphoplasty is an outpatient procedure (performed in Tulsa) and is used to treat painful, acute vertebral compression fractures (VCF) associated with osteoporosis, cancer, or bone trauma.

During the kyphoplasty procedure collapsed vertebrae are filled with a special bone cement to restore the shape and strength of the vertebral body.

What Happens During Kyphoplasty?

In the first step, a needle is inserted into the compressed vertebrae.

Next, a balloon is sent through the needle into the vertebral body then inflated to create a cavity – gently lifting the bone sections into normal position.

Finally, the cavity created by the balloon is filled with orthopedic cement – a bone cement technically known as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) – which hardens quickly to create an internal cast, thereby stabilizing the bone.

Numerous studies have shown kyphoplasty to be a safe, effective treatment for pain associated with spinal fractures. Dr. James Webb as part of the EVOLVE kyphoplasty study, which showed that kyphoplasty patients reported a 72% reduction in back pain. It is one of the best studied procedures in scientific literature related to the spine.

Benefits of Kyphoplasty

Clinical research shows multiple benefits for patients who have kyphoplasty. Prior to kyphoplasty many patients reported back pain so severe that they had difficulty climbing stairs, bending or kneeling, or simply caring for themselves.

After Kyphoplasty, patients reported:

  • Major reductions in back pain (that last long after the procedure)
  • Improved ability to walk unassisted
  • Improved ability to care for one’s daily activities
  • Reduced days needed for bed rest
  • Improved quality of life
  • Improved overall health status

Many patients simply say that “kyphoplasty gave me my life back!”

Kyphoplasty Recovery Times

Kyphoplasty surgery is a minimally-invasive procedure typically performed on an outpatient basis. Studies show that most patients who undergo kyphoplasty surgery experience immediate improvement in back pain.

Kyphoplasty recovery times will vary by patient, but most patients are advised to avoid any strain or stressful movements for the first 24 hours, then slowly resume normal activities over the course of the next several days and weeks.

Patient Reviews & Testimonials

"Dr. Webb is very supportive and actually takes the time to listen to your problems before he comes up with the treatments you may need. Instead of just looking at the xrays and telling you what you need. And this is way more helpful and benifits the patient. I hadn't had a doctor just listen to me and then come up with a plan before and because of that I feel better than I have in a long time. I appreciate the sincere concern for my health his team always gives me."
